I spent last weekend with the Boy Scouts. Fall Camporee for the Cherokee District was at Camp Pine Ridge in Illinois. The weather was perfect and it was a great weekend for me to enjoy with the boys, especially my nephew and my brother. Here's a link to our Troop website and my pictures.

This is a picture taken at my wedding reception (in 1976, and Libby is still putting up with me…mostly). The man on the right is Virgil McElyea, known to his friends as "Mac". We were woodshedding some gospel tunes while the cake and punch were going around. Mac passed away about two weeks ago at […]
After crashing the bike in April, my desire to ride was in about the same shape as the bike. I later discovered the persistent soreness in my elbow was a crack in the radial head. It wasn't visible on regular X-rays, but showed up on an MRI (which makes me wonder about a lot of […]
I was fortunate to be able to find a relief veterinarian to cover for me so that I could take a week’s vacation without leaving my patients in the lurch. Sure, I called home a few times to see if there were any big problems, but mostly I just didn’t worry about anything but having […]
You can read the background of our gala celebrations of the anniversary of our nation's independence in a previous post. We continue to move forward into the information age by putting this 21st year's video on YouTube in five segments. Many thanks to number one son, Tom, for the technical assistance. Part 1, Part 2, […]
I’m headed to Camp Lewallen to spend the week with the troop, mostly because my nephew Joe is going for the first time. Also, I was able to get a relief doctor to cover for me (YES!). I’ve spent several hours writing up where things are, how I do things, and case histories for the […]
The Municipal Band held its TWENTIETH concert last night, and everything went great. I’d have taken more pictures but they would look pretty similar to last year’s. You can check last year’s post for more on the Muni Band. I am such a band nerd. This is me being the M.C. again.
When I was young, my beloved Aunt Jo gave us The Tall Book of Make-Believe. It is a perfectly wonderful book of stories and poems, illustrated by Garth Williams. We wore it out, literally reading it to pieces. When my children were young, Aung Jo sent them a Tall Book, as well. Here is one […]
Here’s a link to a story about my wife’s receiving the "Thanks II" award for her work in Girl Scouting. [Third from the left, back row,the only lady in uniform] I cannot adequately describe how proud I am of what she does, and how much I appreciate her. Yesterday, I went up to Camp Lewallen […]
This picture was taken right before I decided to scoot up the ladder and help that guy over the wall. I made a bad decision. The young man is a great Scout and his buddies could (probably) have done it without my help — I was there to observe and advise. This young man also […]
